Baron Hirsch Cemetery

lines

Over the last four years, CAJAC has been coordinating rehabilitation efforts with the staff and leadership of Baron Hirsch Cemetery. In addition to numerous volunteer outings, CAJAC’s efforts have been specifically directed towards two areas of the cemetery: the Zunska Wala Burial Society and Adas Israel Burial Society of Bayonne. Regarding Zunska Wala, CAJAC sponsored a physical restoration of their grounds, which included the clearing and removal of vines, poison ivy, and other invasive overgrowth.

In Adas Israel’s burial grounds, CAJAC lifted nearly forty stones, thanks in great part to funding from Staten Island Borough President James Oddo (then City Councilman). During spring 2014, CAJAC anticipates remounting at least fifty additional stones throughout the cemetery, in addition to commencing tree removal in Section B-59.

CAJAC is grateful for the partnership and support of Baron Hirsch Cemetery and its Board of Directors whose efforts have yielded reclamation of nearly a third of its grounds, previously consumed by overgrowth.
